Running Multiple instances of Batch & Print Pro

KB ARTICLE: KB0042
KB DATE: 07/05/2009
REQUIRES VERSION: 1.00 or above

How to run multiple instances:-
To run multiple instances on the same machine use -F command line switch e.g. "Batch And Print" -F
(this -F must be the first parameter)

Reasons why NOT to run multiple instances of Batch & Print Pro on the same machine:-

1. There is no performance gain in doing this, Batch & Print Pro run's at full speed that the CPU and OS allows

2. If you are directory monitoring then you can scan multiple folders with different setups, so no need for more than one instance

3. Batch & Print Pro calls other programs to print certain file types e.g. it calls Adobe Reader to print pdf's, Adobe Reader can only run one instance at a time so is not multi-taskable.

4. Batch & Print Pro set's the printer before printing, so if you had two running they would clash and you would get prints out on the wrong printer.

5. Batch & Print Pro checks for warnings, error messages and popup's from other programs when printing, if there were two running then it wouldn't know which had clicked an error message or not.

6. The Batch & Print Pro configuration is stored in .ini files so two running from the same location would corrupt the configuration files

7. Batch & Print Pro Log files would be screwed up due to dual programs writing the same logs

8. Two or more Batch & Print Pro's monitoring the same location would create duplicate prints

Running more than one instance on DIFFERENT machines monitoring

1. Ideally it's not a good idea to monitor the same folder, if you do then use File Trigger mode - this way both would be waiting for a file before triggering the other to scan, setup like below:

a) Setup Instance 1 to monitor folder and look for trigger file trg1, on finish create trg2

b) Setup Instance 2 to monitor folder and look for trigger file trg2, on finish create trg1

To start it create trg1 file manually.

Obviously you will need to set it to move the files after print
